Unlike many previous trips we didn’t wake up early to get on the trail. We did not have far to go (only 9 miles) and the park didn’t seem busy, so we decided to take our time. We woke up at a normal time and the tent was dry. No strong winds had come in the night and we had slept great. As we got ready for the day we talked about where we were headed. We woke up around ten or eleven PM to strong winds accompanied by thunder, lightning, and rain. The wind gusts were so strong they were bowing the tent in on us. We lay there wide awake praying the tent would hold and that the storm would pass. About an hour later things finally calmed down. We slowly woke up listening to the rush of the nearby creek. Dew had settled onto the tent again, but no rain in the night. We woke up around 6 and lay in the tent for a bit. There hadn’t been rain in the night, but the rain fly was soaked with dew. As we got up we moved our gear into a nearby field that was already getting the morning sun. All of our wet gear was quickly laid out to dry. The rocks weren’t warm yet so the drying went slow. I ended up draping the rain fly across trekking poles to help it dry faster. …
