Beartooths 2023 - Day 6

We woke up at a normal time and the tent was dry. No strong winds had come in the night and we had slept great. As we got ready for the day we talked about where we were headed. The next day would be a trip to Cooke City to resupply, so we wanted to get as close to the town as we could. If we hiked all the way to the trailhead and then crossed the Beartooth Highway we would reach Chief Joseph Camp…

Beartooths 2023 - Day 5

We woke up around ten or eleven PM to strong winds accompanied by thunder, lightning, and rain. The wind gusts were so strong they were bowing the tent in on us. We lay there wide awake praying the tent would hold and that the storm would pass. About an hour later things finally calmed down. We both got out of the tent to look around and could see stars directly ahead. We could also see the storm …

Beartooths 2023 - Day 4

We slowly woke up listening to the rush of the nearby creek. Dew had settled onto the tent again, but no rain in the night. It must have been from several years ago as we saw lots of…

Beartooths 2023 - Day 3

We woke up around 6 and lay in the tent for a bit. There hadn’t been rain in the night, but the rain fly was soaked with dew. As we got up we moved our gear into a nearby field that was already getting the morning sun. All of our wet gear was quickly laid out to dry. The rocks weren’t warm yet so the drying went slow. I ended up draping the rain fly across trekking poles to help it dry faster. …

Beartooths 2023 - Day 2

We woke up to brightening skies a little after 6. The inside of the rainfly was wet from humidity and the outside of it was damp as well. There hadn’t been rain in the night which was nice. We packed everything up except the tent and ate breakfast. I had frosted banana bread Pop-Tarts which were delicious. We had hoped the sun would be high enough to dry the tent before we left, but it wasn’t. We …
